02/01/15:

Computer woes: bought a new motherboard, CPU, memory, and hard disk,
and assembled it. After trying to get Mandrake 8.1 to come up correctly,
and failing miserably, started diagnostics. It looked like the drive was
bad (sigh), but after much gnashing of teeth and component swapping,
turns out that the brand-new 512M DIMM was flaky. How stupid is that...

Katie turned in her notice at Lanier. This is interesting mostly
because she's wanted to do so for months and months, and it was not
feasible until very recently. We are both excited at this, as it means
she is entering the dynamic (read: unstable) world of the Freelance
Graphics Artist. I'm sure it will work out fine.

Started moving forward on another project. It is Interesting Stuff(tm).

02/01/03:

Home again, home again, jiggety-jog. I got to spend New Year's with
Katie's and my families, and it was a delightful trip. I learned my Mom's
"secret family instructions" for baking turkeys, and thus I'll need to try
those out soon ;-) Got some collard seeds, and a workaround for the need
for a good cold snap for them. I'll probably try growing some, I do miss
having good greens...

We spent some time with my parents and grandparents, catching up and
finding out how things are going all around. Looks like my parents may be
heading towards Scotland when they've exhausted the Emerald Isle :-)

Also got to spend time with Katie's family and friends, for New Year's
Eve. Nice party, too bad the fireworks we were going to watch were
cancelled. We avoided discussing CA too much, to avoid non-pyrotechnic
fireworks ;-)

Air travel was annoying. I think we'll be trying the land route next
time.

Looks like the LGP game is Majesty. Looks cool -- this was one of the
ones that's interested me ever since I first heard about it. I'm glad the
port is definitely going forward. Tribsoft's been awful quiet of late...

I have finally been assigned a Real Role within SSP -- host API work. It
should be fun :-)

01/12/26:

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I did, I got to spend it with
my cousin Mike and his family. Good people, all, and an immense amount of
fun. Introduced them to bourbon balls and sweet potato casserole. Both
were a big enough hit that I didn't get to take the leftovers home ;-)

We are now busy packing for a trip back to Virginia, so this will likely
be the last .plan update of 2001. See you in 2002!

01/12/21:

  Seasonally Appropriate Salutations to all!

  Interesting stuff may be happening...

Among other weirdnesses recently, I dusted off an Old Friend
(http://www.widomaker.com/~msphil/vpatview/) and started fixing the
support for a couple file formats, having recently seen a couple new
examples of (for instance) updated PatternMaker files. Also, some stuff
I'm charting under a recent version of PatternMaker can't be read by
the current source.

It's rekindled the desire to turn the import stuff into a library, so
that I can write a chart-design program.

01/12/17:

I really should ask Ryan to put this back up on the main page, as
I've forgotten the URL, and now no one will read my silly little updates.
Ah, well.

I'm working on rigging up a connection for my laptop at work, which
will let me give the new code (for meldrew 0.1.2) a whirl. If it all
works, there will hopefully be a new release before EOY. Maybe. Except
that my release dates are inevitably written in melted butter, or
something...

And while waiting for my tasking (sigh), I took a few minutes to
get an old project of mine building under a modern distribution. Weird.
It was easier than it looked the last time I tried :-) I suppose I
ought to clean it up and package it, or something. In my Copious Spare
Time...

01/12/11:

Meldrew 0.1.1 is uploaded. This features a license (whee), some
worthless code being snipped, and just general packaging cleanup. When
I get some time, I'll be giving some new code a whirl (from home), which
will pretty much make him feature-complete. This isn't to say there
isn't a lot left to do, though :-)

01/12/10:

Except for making bourbon balls (a nice, chocolaty confection, which
needs to steep for a couple weeks :-) ), the week-end was a near-total
waste.

On the bright side, the meldrew files have been uploaded (sans
documentation). I still need to add the various links, and I need to get
some information out, and meldrew's not complete yet, but it's a start.
I don't know how much time I'll have to tinker with him, so ya gets what
I's gots.
