It took a day and a half to get the new cable internet connection
working. First because I misguidedly called the comcast tech people
to ask if there was a quick way around needing the install cd
(the lady on the phone assured me there was), they then asked if
I could verify that I am authorized to mess with the account.
After verifying that about ten times, the lady then says:
"You have a self-install kit, you cannot get my help"
then I said, "You are telling me I spent ten minutes on the phone
talking to you and listening to hold music, bugging my room mate just
so you could tell me that you won't tell me about the workaround you
mentioned earlier?".
To which she replied: "Why, yes. Thank you for choosing comcast,
goodbye!"
...
Amusingly, a car dealer and his car dealing friends lied!
What a surprise.
Though I did end up with a car, we lost money due to them not
honoring an agreement.
