2007/06/18:
Generally speaking, moving to California in 2000 sat well with me. It's
nice to be back in a suburban environment, the weather's great, the
people don't entirely suck, and I get to stay out of familial obligations
when I want to avoid them.
However, one of the things I've missed has been Eastern NC-style barbecue.
It's not something I had regularly back east, but it was a mainstay of
family gatherings and reunions.
I found a recipe to cook it (in reasonable quantities, no full pig
required!) on the Internet, just going to show once again that you can
probably find anything out there.
It turned out well! Now, I can fill that occasional longing myself rather
than pestering all my restaurant-frequenting friends about it. (Hint:
Southern California has LOTS of great food, but NC-style barbecue is NOT
one of the styles...)
