Unreal: Return To Na Pali Version 436 December 14, 2002 TABLE OF CONTENTS 1 System Requirements 2 Installation 3 Playing The Game 4 Known Issues 5 Troubleshooting 6 Contacting Me 7 Important Stuff ----------------------- (1) SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ----------------------- Unreal: Return To Na Pali requires Unreal Tournament 436 for Linux to be installed and working. The system requirements are the same as for Unreal Tournament. ---------------- (2) INSTALLATION ---------------- Before starting the installation process with "sh napali-install-436.run" You must have your Unreal: Return To Na Pali CDROM in your CDROM drive and have it mounted. For example: $mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom $sh napali-install-436.run If you want to install Unreal: Return To Na Pali remotely you can use the SETUP_CDROM environment variable to point to your CDROM drive. For example: $export SETUP_CDROM=/path/to/cdrom $sh napali-install-436.run -------------------- (3) PLAYING THE GAME -------------------- Run 'napali' to start the game. The first time you run Unreal: Return To Na Pali it will create a ~/.loki/napali directory. Preferences, etc., will be stored here. ---------------- (4) KNOWN ISSUES ---------------- RENDERERS - Some models may not render correctly. ie. Parts of models will be transparent. This has only been tested with the following Renderers: OpenGLDrv SDLGLDrv SDLSoftDrv GlideDrv is untested (I don't have a 3dfx card) Models that I have found to render incorrectly are: Combat Assault Rifle Grenade Launcher Rocket Launcher The UMS Bodega Bay The Scout Ship that drops you off on Dusk Falls The Scout Ship you leave Na Pali in Note: Everything renders correctly in the win32 version of Unreal Tournament. Unreal Tournament 425 for Linux renders everything correctly too. GAMEPLAY - Rockets fired from the Rocket Launcher don't seem to impact on walls in multiplayer modes. This doesn't happen with Eightball Rockets. - Cannot shoot when connected to a dedicated server. - Botmatches do not work. - Cannot connect to a legitimate Unreal: Return To Na Pali win32 server. This will not change. ------------------- (5) TROUBLESHOOTING ------------------- - Troubleshooting Unreal: Return To Na Pali is the same as Unreal Tournament. If you need to edit any ini files, they are in ~/.loki/napali/System/ - You can find other Linux Unreal Tournament and Unreal: Return To Na Pali players at: news://news.lokigames.com/loki.games.ut - Any updates or fixes will be available from: http://icculus.org/~ravage/unreal/napali/ ----------------- (6) CONTACTING ME ----------------- You can email me: ravage@icculus.org ------------------- (7) IMPORTANT STUFF ------------------- This hack would not be possible without the efforts of: usaar33 (http://www.usaar33.com) usaar33 originally removed the native coding from UPak.u so it would run under Unreal 226 to get better video and sound. This was before the final patch for Return To Na Pali was released. eagleAR (http://www.geocities.com/atifriaz/) eagleAR took usaar33's hack further to get UPak.u to load in Unreal Tournament once the native coding had been removed.
