To play, first select the configur-
ation menu. If you have a 25Mhz or
slower 386, then you must select the
'reduced detail' item, or else the
game will not run well on your
system. The other options on the
menu should be self-explanatory.

Here are some basic hints to help
you through the game. If you need
more info, see the file NMACK.DOC.

At the game's beginning, you have
only your martial arts as a weapon.
Your kick is many times more effective
if you are in the air upon contact
with the enemy.
You will find a gun on the ground
near the house. It has limited ammo.
To fire the gun, you must hit the '2'
key to select it as a weapon. The
remaining ammo is displayed in the
'current weapon' icon in the center
of the control panel.
When you pick up ammo that you
find, it will go right into the
weapon. If you pick up ammo for a
weapon you don't yet have, the ammo
will go into your inventory.
Med packs work in a similar fashion.
If you can't use it when you pick it
up, it pops into your inventory. To
use it later, you must drop it and
then pick it up again.

Grenades must be selected like every
other weapon. Throw the grenade by
holding down the space bar until the
left yellow bar display charges up to
the desired height, and then release
the space bar. The longer you hold
down the key, the farther the grenade
will travel. The grenades must be
used with care. They will bounce off
walls and you are vulnerable to their
explosions.

Doors can be opened just by bumping
against them. If the door is locked,
your 'door' display will show what key
is needed. If the display shows a
foot, then the door can be opened by
kicking. If it shows an explosion, it
can be opened with a grenade or bomb.

  Stairwells, elevators, or sometimes
doorways can cause a 'level-switch'.
You can always go back to a level you
have been in, and the state will be
the same as when you left it.

Mines can be picked up and placed in
the path of the enemies. Bombs can
be planted and detonated remotely with
the 'b' key.

A big part of the game is learning to
sneak past the enemies. Your profile
displays show how vulnerable you are
to enemy detection.

There are many factors which go into
your profile. The profile is raised
by fast movement and shooting, and it
is lowered by stillness and uniform.
Stealing a uniform from a dead enemy
will lower your chances of being
caught. You do not have to explictly
issue a command to wear the garmet.
Just having one in your inventory will
do the trick.

Good luck, and remember to consult
the file NMACK.DOC for more complete
information.
