TETRIS! FOR UWINDOWS: STANDARD EDITION

Coder: JbP

Release: 5th Mar 00
Version: Standard Edition 1.0

Details:

Tetris! for UWindows is a mod for Unreal Tournament. It works as an extension to the UT GUI. What is it? It's a simple tetris clone, with a few interesting features. I could go on pimping it here, but basically, it's Tetris and I don't need to sell it to ya...

Installation:

Tetris! is packaged inside a .umod file. For 95% of people, installing a .umod package is a simple as double-clicking tetris!.umod.

If you use Linux, you can use this file (provided by MisAkA) to install the umod: http://www.deepsky.com/~misaka/umodunpack.pl. If you have difficulties with this platform-independent installer, please don't mail me about it; I won't be able to provide assistance.

If you run a Win9x system, and double-clicking the umod asks you for an application, you have an error in your file-type association for .umods. You will need to correct this in order to install the mod. The solution involves quite a few steps, and I won't replicate the whole thing here. Instead, check out the mutators faq at the mutation device: http://www.planetunreal.com/mutation/faq/

Execution:

Once you have successfully installed Tetris!, run Unreal Tournament. From the Mod pulldown menu in the UT GUI, select Tetris!. From here, you are on your own. The arrow keys are the default keys; these are configurable in Options. I hope you enjoy Tetris!

If you've never seen a Mod menu in UT before, that's okay. It should appear the first time you run UT after installing Tetris!

If you can't find Tetris! in your mod menu, you most likely have incorrectly uninstalled a mod in the past. You'll basically have to clean up your UT\system folder, in particular removing any orphaned .int files (that is, third-party ones that don't have a corresponding .u file).

Uninstallation:

If you don't like Tetris!, you don't honestly think I'm going to assist you by providing uninstallation instructions, do you? Well... I'll assume that you actually love Tetris!, and you'll actually just like to know how to uninstall UT mods simply as an expansion of your general UT knowledge.

Win9x users: oooh, it's simple. Just double-click the setup.exe program in your UT\system folder. You'll be presented with a list of mods installed. Follow the instructions to uninstall the mod that so displeases you.

Otherwise, just delete the .int file and the .u file from the ut\system directory. This method is less thorough than the one above, and may leave stray files and settings in your UT implementation.
