I don't disagree. I would merely add that routine updates on status
don't breach any contracts. For example, let's assume that there are
legal issues surrounding the release of a product and the lawyers have
not only said that nobody can discuss the specifics but they also
stipulate that it is inappropriate to even mention the problems are
legal in nature. In such a case, someone could merely say something
like this:

Program Update - UT3 Linux Client
==================================
April 8, 2008

Further development efforts are still on hold. We will be releasing
another bulletin on May 8, 2008 to update everyone. Thanks for your
continued patience and support.

Releasing a bulletin of this nature, although scarce on details, is not
problematic in the least. No contract would have been breached yet
everyone would know that someone with a pulse was at the helm. We might
not ever know why the project has been stalled, but at least we would
know that something is happening. I think that is the source of a lot
of the frustration.
