You might be better off joining a fedora core or red hat irc channel :)
Faster feedback and better support....
Not sure if this list is the correct place/list, but:
- Have a look at top, identify the server process
- Use lsof to get all open files (and sockets) of the server - just to
be sure that the socket is really opened
- Try to scan for the server socket, e.g. with nmap(fe), scan from the
server (localhast) and from a client
- tcpdump might help you
This should reveal enough information to get usefull feedback :)

PS: IPTABLES can't be down. It's a feature - you would have to recompile
your kernel to DISABLE iptables...
