So, any ideas on what I've done wrong? I'm assuming that someone out
there has managed to get UT2004 running under Linux with an ATI 9600 or
9800 Pro.

Just to add to the list of working games, the following run fine on my
system with either the 9800 Pro or GF FX 5200:

- Quake 3
- UT
- UT2003
- RtCW
- NWN

Ive got a Radeon 9600 Pro (one of the nice powercolor 256Meg versions)
and UT2004 works under Linux, Quake3, RtCW and NWN all work as well.
Maybe it the drivers your using. I think im using the 3.7.0 drivers from
ATI(the only drivers that work for 9200+ cards). I'm also running
Debian(unstable) so it cant be Debain at folt. I find the game almost
upplayable on most maps though(fps drops very low) and im guessing its
the rubbish ATI drivers and not specificaly UT2004. How well do your old
NVidia cads play the game?

I just tried it with the 3.7.0 drivers, no change (compressed log
attached). Would you might sending me a copy of your XF86Config-4?

For the game's sake, I'd suggest two things, to both of you:
a) Download the 3.2.8 drivers (as long as you are not using a 2.6.x
kernel they will install just fine, 2.6 requires a little bit of
patching of the driver). To get it, just go to the download section of
ATi's page. Then check the URL of the rpm that points to the 3.7.6
driver, change the name of the rpm to fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.2.8.i586.rpm.
In debian use alien to convert the rpm to .deb.

b) Please make sure you don't have a tls directory under
/usr/X11R6/lib, if you do, just rename/move the libGL.so files from
that directory. This boosted my performance with specifically UT2004.

If you have further questions on how to set your ATi cards, please pay
a visit to the Rage3D Linux forum at:
