Not 100% sure but ryan did post a gcc3 support file on the [cod] mailing 
lists a while back

http://icculus.org/updates/cod/gcc3-libs.tar.bz2

These maybe enough to get it up and running for you - although ideally 
an update to gcc3 (linux_base_8 on freebsd) would be the best thing to do
