Up until recently, the ONS map "tricky" was "very slow" when I looked toward
the center, but OK when looking at the side or "up in the air". I was also
using an ATI 9000 based card, then I "succumbed" and bought a nVidia card and
all is well with tricky. At first, I thought it was the "flame effect"
surrounding the rings suspended in midair, but after I installed the new
card, I think it is because there are (supposed to be) "puddles" of water
throughout the map which REFLECT the scenery (and are 90% transparent at the
same time), so "bad map design" may have a lot to do with it. (well, not
"bad" per se, but rather "not the most processor-friendly" :) )

As you might imagine, I never noticed the "standing water/reflection" effect
using the ATI card.
