[ut2004] Red Orchestra 3.0 startup failure?

After the inital ut2004 popup I get:

_X11TransSocketOpen: socket() failed for local
_X11TransSocketOpenCOTSClient: Unable to open socket for local
_X11TransOpen: transport open failed for local/thoth:0
Couldn't set video mode: Could not create GL context

The RO forums had one poast regarding a "ut2004.xml" file that I didn't
quite follow. I did ln -s /usr/local/games/ut2004/.manifest/ut2004.xml
/home/user/.loki/installed/ut2004.xml but that hasn't helped. Tried
running RO as root, which didn't work either, failed with the same
error.

System is Mandrake 10, latest Nvidia drivers, 3270 beta patch installed.
UT2004 works fine. Any ideas?
