No, we ported it because:

1) The server on Linux is extremely important.
2) Mark Rein wasn't just paying lip service on the INA forums: taking 
advantage of people for their servers and not letting them actually PLAY 
blows.
3) (My own conjecture) having Linux/Mac/whatever versions makes the 
engine more sexy to licensees, so it doesn't hurt to have it.
4) All the other benefits of portable code: shaking out bugs, 
assumptions, etc.
