The latest patch should work with debian unstable, but I managed to 
break FreeBSD when I forgot to brandelf the new loki_patch binary.  :(

You still need to tapdance around with the older patches on Debian 
unstable...there's no good way to fix a patch in the field when the 
problem is in the patch tool itself, since you can only apply another 
patch on top of an applied patch.  :(
