Ok. I can help with that (lots of high-end SUN systems at work and at 
home). :)

Mesa will be very slow on Solaris. ioq2 uses OpenGL (or XIL, or 
Newt/SunRay since SUN contributed some code) and ioq3 should most likely 
use OpenGL under Solaris too..

I'm currently experimenting with option 2) (USE_SDL_VIDEO and 
USE_SDL_AUDIO) since I'm "sound coding impaired" and I'm planning to use 
SDL for sound under Solaris..
