Yes. Please use the debug! version when trying to debug it.
That means: 
[...code/unix]$ gmake debug
[...code/unix]$ cd debugppc (should be named something like this)
[...code/unix/debugppc]$ gdb ./ppcq3d (again, name could be slightly
different)

You may have to put you .pk3 into debugppc/baseq3 directory, softlinking
them should suffice.

Then repeat the debug instructions please, and post the output.
