Catch me up

I have not really played Q2 for years until now.  I knew of a project by 
Bleeding Eye Studios a while back but it appears their site no longer 
exists.  I was wanting to know if there are any projects out there that 
have improved the look of the Quake2 client and added some new features 
(Like being able to use the caps-lock key!).

Could someone in the know give me a quick catch up on what is considered 
required knowledge these days?  Also I have found some anti-cheat's 
(q2admin, ace and nocheat) but are there any other cool utils for 
servers/clients that are a must have?
