Q2max performance?

Just wondering how q2max performs for other people.

I get anything between 3 and 83 FPS with it (without it, q2 is pretty
much glued to 83 FPS in 1024x768 OpenGL) and it generally isn't very
playable (mostly because the speed changes so much; it might be possible
to adjust if it stayed at a somewhat even speed).

This is with 0.15 on an Athlon XP 1800+ with a Geforce2 MX (nvidia binary
drivers), so I'm a bit surprised that it is that slow.
