There may be something totally borken about the software renderer. None of the x86 installers I made work by default with it (I assumed that was because of Q2MAX). I'm stuck without DRI so I can't test the GL renderer on Linux/PPC. (The x86 installers would be fixed by now, to at least default to gl, but my motherboard took the opportunity to die)
