http://icculus.org/pyddr/faq.php says:

pyDDR crashes with an "Urecognized file type (not VOC)" error, and I can't 
read the installation requirements.

     You need a more recent version of SDL_mixer. We converted all the sound 
effects to wav to ogg; this brought the size of the pyDDR download from over 
4MB to under 2MB, so we're not going back.

So, upgrade SDL_mixer and get back to us.
