Misc Issues
____________________________________________________
My hardware & OS: OS X 10.3.3 + ATI Radeon 9000pro
Temporarily using G4 500Mhz Cube
____________________________________________________
I. Settings Keyboard Controls menu issues
A. Four Nonfunctional Keys: F14, F15, Clear. Also F16 shows up as
"None".
B. Both left and right control show up as: L Control
C. Both left and right shift show up as: L Shift
D. Command (Open Apple) shows up as: F24
E. Kensington ExpertMouse Trackball Issues. NOTE: This billiard-sized
trackball has 10 buttons and a mouse wheel. The four major buttons are
at top left, top right, bottom left, and bottom right, with six
addition miniature buttons across the very top. The equivalent turbo
mouse pro is described here: http://www.kensington.com/html/1159.html
1. OK: Left mouse and right mouse are correctly associated with the
major buttons at bottom left and bottom right. Wheel is also correctly
associated with mousewheel up & down. Now on to the problems:
2. Both top left & top right major buttons are the same: Mouse5
3. Four of the top six buttons are duplicates of other keys or
buttons. These read, from 1 to 6:
1) L Control 2) Alt 3) F24 4) Middle Mouse 5) Mouse4 6)
Mouse5
Note that only 4) and 5) are unique. Mouse5 is redundant in
triplicate with the two top major buttons. And L Control, Alt, and F24
(aka Command/open-apple) are duplicates with the keyboard.
F. left click selects a Key to change, however, simply *moving the
mouse off* deselects it. (Note: Esc key deselects differently, with a
clear sound feedback). I suspect the deselection when mouse-over ends
is a bug.
G. Controls correctly go into the chosen slot (of three possible),
unlike the less intuitive UT2004 keyboard control menu. This is good.
However, when a key already exists in one of the three, it does not
switch, and can be confusing.
1. For example, say the three slots for Strafe Left are set to: 1)
(blank) 2) numpad4 3) A
If the user clicks on (blank) in slot 1, and presses "A"
nothing happens and it remains blank, and there is no feedback to
indicate there was a problem.
a. Possible solution #1: It would be better feedback if it turned
into A, and the A in the third slot was cleared.
b. Possible solution #2: Do nothing as before, but play a sound, like
the one that is played when you select a key with left mouse, then
press the Esc key.
II. Settings Keyboard Control trivial Issues
A. Option shows up as Alt.
i. Also, left vs. right distinction does not exist.
B. "Weapon Selection" order in the menu is different from "Inventory
Selection" order. Weapons: 1) Previous 2) Next 3) Drop; Inventory:
1) Drop 2) Next 3) Previous
III. Audio Settings issues:
A. changing either 1) reverse stereo, 2) music volume, or 3) sound
volume pauses the animation and the background music significantly long
(perhaps about 5 full seconds). This does not happen with the other
selections, such as "announcer". The "dialog" results in a very brief
video pause, but that is less jarring because it is shorter in duration
and the background music continues uninterrupted.
IV. Other:
There is no audible "click" when taking a screenshot. I have to go to
the console to confirm it was taken.
(I do like that it displays the file name there, and that screenshots
go into the main Postal2 app support folder).
