<pre wrap="">This may or may not be openbox related. I've got a few firefox add-ons that
add a button to the nav bar. The idea is you click on this button to bring
up a popup window to set preferences or manage some other aspect of the
add-on. Ublock origin is an example. But I don't get the popup; I click on
the button and nothing happens. I suspect that's because I'm not running a
desktop, just an X server and openbox. Firefox may be depending on some
gnome misfeature that I don't have. So probably not openbox related, but I
wonder if anyone here knows why this is happening and how to fix it.

which firefox version?<br>
i guess both ubuntu and arch might be using a pretty recent version?<br>
are you sure you have checked the notification settings in the
preferences' content tab?<br>
although what you show in the screenshot should not be affected by
that.<br>
that looks like an html/css pop-up to me.<br>
<br>
system notifications look different; if you use thunderbird, you
should get one when there's new mail.<br>
<br>
maybe hardware acceleration then.<br>
in the advanced tab, try checking/unchecking it, restart ff each
time, see what it does.<br>
<br>
have you looked at firefox' optional dependencies?<br>
<br>
but i'll say it again, what you showed us in the screenshot issue
doe not look like libnotify has anything to do with it.<br>
<br>
are you getting black rectangles instead of the popups, or just
nothing? have you tried left/right-clicking?<br>
<br>
