Alright. I guess i should not have posted a problem without knowing the specifics and for that I apologize. I do not know how to be more specific then how i described previously since i do not fully understand the problem. I just posted because with two similar setups (the only variable here was the window manager), i found a difference in how the browser/flash performed (in that the browser did no lock up) when switching back and forth from the gaming workspace to the browsing workspace.<br>
<br>For now this is no longer a issue for me since switching to dwm with the same workspace setup *seemed* to solve the problem, so i am staying with what works for now. I am not even sure if this is a problem that i am experiencing is related to openbox.<br>

1) I have 4 'workspaces', first for instant messaging and volume control (pidgin, alsamixer, two terminals), second for xchat, third for gaming, fourth for firefox. The problem i run into is if i have youtube open in firefox playing some music, and i game on the third workspace, i get significant slowdown on the firefox workspace to the point where it is almost frozen.<br>

Now i have run openbox for the last couple months, and i did not think this was an problem until i switched to dwm with the same workspace setup, where i do not experiance the problem. I know this isnt too specific but it made me wonder :)<br>

2) I noticed switching to dwm that it will acutally update pidgin's away time by hovering the mouse over any pidgin window (im window, or main buddy list window), and i also know that openbox does not do this, since i've experianced 20+ hours of idle time until i finally type a message to myself or someone on my buddy list.<br>

I'm not really sure what you want, and your original case (1) involves a lot of variables outside those you wish to hi-light. I've tried pidgin in openbox and dwm and to be honest i have no idea what you mean in either wm, i'd even go so far as to worry you are not even using pidgin :) - As a wild guess it might be something to do with the way dwm focuses windows on hover?<br>
