This issue (Openbox context menu not working) has not manifested since
I wrote the email above 12 days ago (although I had to log out once in
the meantime due to an ALSA update).

This does not mean of course that one of polkit-gnome, ibus* or Gnome
Control Centre is the culprit. My plan is to wait a couple more days
and early next week reinstall Gparted, which is a program I like to
use occasionally and that pulls in as dependency polkit-gnome, and
then wait to see if the issue manifests again. I don't have at the
moment any use for ibus or Gnome Control Centre so I am not planning
to reinstall them.
