In practice, this causes problems for languages that do not use the Latin alphabet.  A workaround is to use a template:

【C】電卓
【N】ニュース
【O】設定

A great feature of Openbox is its ability to recognize keyboard accelerators even when an IME is running.  The "A" key could be inputting "ち", but Openbox would still recognize the "A".  Not all programs do this.
