[openbox] Running "openbox session" instead of Lubuntu session

I'm trying to use just openbox session instead of Lubuntu session and I'm
having a few difficulties although, overall, I can do 99% of what I want.

Lubuntu 13.04 comes with lxpanel and so I'm using that in
~/.config/openbox/autostart:
xsetroot -solid "#000005"
lxpanel --profile Lubuntu &

I also have ~/.config/autostart which contains .desktop files for Dropbox
and xfcedesktop. Could the latter be causing problems? Should I remove it?

I edited ~/.gtkrc-2.0 to include:
include "/home/vasa1/.themes/MyGreybird/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
gtk-icon-theme-name = "/home/vasa1/.icons/NoInherits"

The first line seems effective (99% except for the skinnier fonts);
The second line seems totally ignored.
(I don't know what to do about gtk3 apps such as gedit.)

*** Compared to a Lubuntu session, the fonts seem a bit thinner and smaller
in several places (but not everywhere). Whatever is handled by Openbox
themerc is perfect and unaffected. I'm guessing it's the gtk side of things
that are affected.

*** My icon theme is not being used in the openbox session; the icons look
like those in /usr/share/icons/gnome.

*** When I open lxappearance, whatever changes I make in the "widgets" tab
or in the "Icon theme" tab appear only in the lxappearance window itself
and nowhere else. Changes in the "Window Border" and "Font" tabs work as
expected.

*** The fonts in my lxterminal window seem different (and smaller) although
the font choice is unchanged.

I know my question is a bit vague but if more specifics are needed, I'll do
my best to provide them.

Thanks for any guidance!
