How is a composite manager useful in this situation? I think he wants to have 
a transparent background with an opaque  font. A composite manager is IMHO not 
able to distinguish between "background" and "foreground"...
So if you set the opacity to 0.1 then you have a nice transparent menu, where 
you cannot read anything...
