I run a setting with the same resolution and do not have any problems with 
that. That's how my xorg.conf looks like:

Section "Monitor"
  Identifier "SyncMaster940BW"
  HorizSync 30-81
  VertRefresh 56-75
EndSection

Section "Screen"
  Identifier "Screen 0"
  Device "Nvidia"
  Monitor "SyncMaster940BW"
  DefaultDepth 24
  SubSection "Display"
    Viewport 0 0
    Depth 24
    Modes "1440x900"
  EndSubSection
EndSection
