I don't see the problem. Actually, Openbox's behavior is one of the most configurable I've ever seen. It works the way I expect it to work. And it's very polished, more than most other *boxes in my opinion.

Just tweak the rc.xml and Openbox will get out of your way and let you do stuff comfortably.
