execute command on rc binding

my quest is to change the background for each workspace, and to use 
3ddesk (desk3d.sf.net) to do it. this is not easily done with an 
OpenBox3+GNOME2.4 combination.

methinks if we could bind execution of a command in rc.xml, it would be 
yummy.  currently (Openbox 3.1) there is only the option to execute in 
menu.xml for pipe menus.  what do you all think?  does that belong in 
OpenBox3?
