It sounds like error message is coming from the demo client,
probably you can't connect a full version server with the demo
client - and at least the demo client seems to think that the
server is a full version server.

Promising, you'll just have to wait to get your hands on a full
version client and see if this is true and if things really work
the way that we all hope it will in practice.

Quint, have you tried running the Spearhead server with the
new demo maps and connecting to it with a Spearhead client
with the new maps on on it? It just might be that you and your
clan can give a try at least on the new maps which come with
the demo. Then again, this may be against the lisencing rules...

This is what Ryan wrote once when somebody asked about
possibility to play on a Spearhead server with normal MOHAA
client:
"Spearhead servers can server the MOHAA maps to Spearhead clients.
MOHAA servers can NOT server the Spearhead maps to MOHAA
clients (well, maybe it works, but not legally, since you need a copy of
spearhead to have those maps anyhow)."

Then again, if you get the demo for free... but usually there's also
something about reverse engineering and such which you agree to
by clicking OK during the install.
Any lawyers or law students on the list? Somebody please have
a good look on the disclaimer...

Nice work, anyway. Keep us informaed if you keep on with further
experiments and find out more.

Rayn,

I have got it i'm running the new mohaa with you're spearhead linux
server. But with one problem, can you help me.

What i did is the following :

1. I installed the demo on a windows machine and ftp it to my linux box.
2. I saw that the main and mainta directory was changed into .... So i
moved it to main and made a softlink to mainta
3. i compared the server.cfg file with my server.cfg from spearhead and i
saw it is the same so i put in my server.cfg file and changed the map
rotation to de new breaktrough maps.
4. i copied your server file and the .so file into the directory
4. I fired it up with all the settings i use in spearhead :
"spearhead_lnxded +set dedicate 1 +set developer 2 +set sv_chatter 1 +set
cheats 0 +set logfile 2 +set ui_console 1 +set fs_outputpath /mohaa/log
+set logfilename qconsole.log +exec server.cfg"

And guess what it is running, so i tried to logon with the demo, but it is
saying in the console of the demo :

Can't connect to a non demo server.

I did a tcpdump to see in the packages what is happening between the
client and server, but with no luck, it looks like the handshake isn't
working.It looks like the code is the same, but i think the problem is in
that the server you build is saying with startup spearhead beta, and i
think the demo is looking for Breaktrough.

Can you try this at your end and if you have time is it a possibility to
put up a new server who is saying breaktrough.

If you need some more info contact me... My clan is jumping me to run
breaktrough. I would be appreciated.
