[mohaa] router ports?

127.0.0.1 is internal loopback, it is the way a machine calls itself for
testing.
if your linux box takes this as your first IP, you may have a problem with
initializing your NIC properly.
check to see that the browser and other internet programs work on that box.
did you launch with a command like this?
spearhead_lnxded + set net_IP 192.168.2.26 + set dedicated 1
this will force your internal IP to be the same as your NIC and not your
loopback
then take your firewall router, redirect ports 12203 (minimum) gamespy and
whatever to your internal address.
that should guarantee your buddies will get in.
there are some issues with firewall routers not working well with master
list servers meaning your computer will not show up in the main list when
someone browses the internet.
This is an internal server problem I've already posted and fought with EA
with and I am not sure they will fix it. The problem is, the local side
server can report only 1 IP to the masterlist server.
if you specify your local IP (LAN side), your system will work but the
masterlist server challenges that IP to see if your really up. So it
challenges 192.168.x.x on its local side, and fails and never makes it to
your wan IP.
if you force your WAN IP, your local router will drop the packets because
they are invalid to your specified mask and local segment, so your Router
never lets it out to the WAN.
What the gameserver needs is the ability to specify 2 IPs, local IP, and WAN
IP for Nameserver.
Hope they fix this in next major release,
good luck

Subject: [mohaa] router ports?
hi
i have a little problem i hope, it is when i try and host a dedicated game
(MOHAA) on a linux box, everytime it starts it tells me the ip address is
127.0.0.1 this seems to be ok though, as i can connect to the server perfect
over LAN, but when it comes to getting people to connect to it via internet
they say they just get server timed out. i have looked around to check that
i have the right ports open, but even with the ports open i still cant get
anyone to connect.....
is this problem down to the port forwarding on my router, or is ip address
problem in the linux box causing the problem....
any help would be great
thanks in advance!
From Grant (aka ORB)
