problems joining a server

I have just recently upgraded spearhead linux to beta5.  For whatever
reason now, no one has been able to connect to the server via gamespy
and ASE.  The only way they can connect is via the console.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?  Help would be
appreciated... thx.
