First thing to try, however odd this may sound, is to disable ide-scsi emulation.
It may work fine without it for this, if it does, I think then this is a
kernel problem. Some people have reported switching both to, and from,
ide-scsi with varying levels of success.

I did this and it worked fine. Switching my IDE cdrom back to normal
IDE operation that is. I left my burner as scsi emulation and my DVD
is scsi so no changes there. I mounted the cdrom explicitly and ran
the copied linux-installer.sh that was in my home dir. I had disk 2 in
my DVD and 3 in my burner. Once it was done with one it mounted and
found disk two and then three when two was complete. I was able to
unmount both DVD and burner and put in disk four and five
respectively. When the install was done with disk 5 it went back to
disk one in my cdrom and finished up without a hitch. <br>

I only had my cdrom using scsi emulation for use in K3b. It works good
that way. And I never did like supermount so it is always disabled. <br>

Personally, I pre-ordered to ensure recieving the dvd edition, mainly since
I wanted the headset and I knew setup always has problems with multiple cd
installs.
If nobody can help you on this list, you might try the ut2004 list.
