resizing panes manually to get a fullscreen is very time consuming, there isnt 
much advantage to having floating windows if they cant be switched quickly -- 
back and forth between fullscreen texture veiw and fullscreen 3d veiw for 
instance -- if it turns out that the menubar cannot be configured, perhaps a 
hotkey that would affect the active window?
