[OT] FS2_open

Hi

Sorry if the following text is offtopic, please direct me to the proper 
mailing list, thanks!

I have seen lots of replies in here that bugs and features are added into 
FS2_open. Please tell me if a fs1/fs2 linux player as me should switch to 
fs2_open ? More specifically :
1. if it's opensource and compiles under Linux (supported under Linux)
2. where from to download the sources and a small build tutorial if there 
is none available somewhere else
