Descent3 for Linux will play the movies from freespace2. You can see this
if you copy any of the movie files to
/where/i/installed/descent3/movies/intro.mve and run D3.

Our best bet is to use Descent 3 to convert them to MPEG, and stick an
SMPEG decoder into freespace2. This involves using the dynamically-linked
D3 binary from Loki and a hacked SDL.

Here's how I converted the D3 movies to MPEG. It's trickier without the D3
source, but I think we can shift the work entirely into SDL if we're
clever: http://icculus.org/misc/mpeg.txt
