The wine+codwaw was only temporary, due to delay in the binaries
delivery after much-needed patches (the first use of the cod4 engine
by treyarch was far from ideal if you remember well). And I am a
linux lover, especially on servers.

Why run a linux VM and then a windows VM, can(t you run a windows VM
directly on Solaris ?

I think they have looked at the MW2 situation : aside from being
lazy at supporting the dedicated part, they should have seen that
even "not-wanting-to-pay" players have found a way in MW2 to play,
so it's not worth saving a little money and get customers angry.

I think it's a perfect example of what can happen when so many
people rant at the head when they're not happy. If linux binaries
are confirmed too, yeehaaah. But just only with free-to-run
dedicated servers announcement, I'm already happy. Not to the point
of pre-order, but it's a far better future than not buying it at all
(that was my previous statement, seeing the cod elite crap coming,
and no news about servers). And it's a sign that PC gaming get a
little love again.
Sure, there will might be a
way to run it on sun solaris with a linux VM in it with a
windows VM in it (like a matrioska)

Anyway TF2 (the most played FPS multiplayer currently?) is a
good example: IIRC there are more linux servers compared to
windows servers.
Additionally high end competitions are played only on linux
servers.

Additionally linux servers allows users to put online more
servers for lower price (no windows license needed) = more
servers availability.

If you really ran cod5 within wine (as I did) you will for
sure remember the incredible memory leaks that were happening
using that combination (wine + codwaw) just after 24hours of
gameserver uptime.

Anyway I'm not here trying to convince you why linux is better
to host *servers* (this is a list dedicated to linux servers)
but I'm here asking if there there's any news about linux
binaries.

I'm asking this because I think every gameserver/clan/"multigaming paying for
it's own hardware" needs to plan their "business" and decide
which games they need to push and promote and which other
games they have to "discredit" in order to drive the users to
the games they think are more "profitable"/"cheap to maintain"
(running on linux is one of the key indexes IMHO).
