hardware by not having to purchase a MS lic for each box. and by the

it's not what it use to be. We can also add in the benefits of security.
Granted both <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">OSs</st1:place></st1:City>
are insecure in the hands of novice sys admin. <br>
Running Windows under wine defeats all that. However I'm afraid to say we
may have to get use to this type of business practice. Any major GSP
should deploy both <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">OSs</st1:place></st1:City>
under their organization now a days.<br>

Lets be real, most end users are more concerned with getting a server on day
one and it remaining up without any issues. The GSP is concerned with
keeping customers happy and making the most profit while keeping overhead as
low as possible.<br>
<br>
I'm in no way against Linux and prefer it for my servers (both game and web)
but do you think Treyarch / IW / Activision has that high on their priority
list? If anything this has all showed (time and time again) that as a GSP
you can not count on a dev/pub to release linux bits in a timely fashion no
matter how much they promise. Thus you have to have a couple windows boxes
ready for windows only bit deployment. Hell the bigger issues in my mind is non
dedicated bits and why we have to upload the full install to our remote boxes
(you bigger GSPs sit in the same room - damn you :-) )<br>
<br>
The real kicker here is the lack of communications to the people that support
the backend of the PC game without any real or official support from the
dev/pub. In the long run, if someone from Treyarch kept us up to date on
what the hell is going on, these types of communications would be limited and
maybe we would be somewhat compassionate towards their situations, if any.<br>
