most bizzare thing, too, cuz sometimes people could join and sometimes they
couldn't. This is extraneous information, but what I did to
figure it out was ran the server with +set developer 1, so that it
displayed on the console EVERYTHING that happened. I found that
people could join when codauthorize.activision.com timed out (i.e. when their
key wasn't authed), and could not join when the connection was
resolved.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>

you wanna know: I had to use the /etc/hosts file to get around the cd key

1.2, I no longer have the problem, and I'm pretty sure 1.3 completely fixes
it. If you don't know what the /etc/hosts file is, don't worry cuz ill

all you do is open /etc/hosts with the editor of your choice (i use vi), and add

does is it tells your computer that anytime a program tries to resolve
codauthorize.activision.com to an IP address, to use 127.0.0.1. the IP
address 127.0.0.1 is <STRONG>always</STRONG> a loopback IP address, meaning that
it points back to your computer (if you're clever, you'll notice that one of the
lines in the /etc/hosts file does that!). In other words, if your IP
address is 1.2.3.4, on YOUR computer, 127.0.0.1 is effectively the same as
1.2.3.4.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>

this work? well, when the server tries to find
codauthorize.activision.com, linux checks your /etc/hosts file, sees that you've
told your computer that codauthorize.activision.com is really 127.0.0.1, and
then checks port 20500 on your computer to try and authorize the CD keys.
well, obviously your computer is not running the software to auth the CD keys,
so the authorization times out, and after a few seconds, the people
can join.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>
