You didn't ask me, but I'll explain my success running MW3 in wine.
This could be useful to others wanting to run MW3 in wine.
This is basically how you would run MW3 in Windows, slightly different for running in wine.
Please reply with better methods I might not be using.

- Run vncserver as the user to run the game server, connect to vnc desktop.
- Install hldsupdate tool with normal destination.
  This puts HldsUpdatetool.exe in ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Valve/HLServer/
- mkdir ~/.wine/drive_c/hlserver
- cd ~/.wine/drive_c/hlserver/
- cp ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Valve/HLServer/* .
- wine HldsUpdatetool.exe -command update -game modernwarfare3 -dir .
- Copy Steam.dll from windows steam client to ~/.wine/drive_c/hlserver/
- Edit /.wine/drive_c/hlserver/players2/server.cfg
Change all lines from 'set' to 'seta', and update vars as needed.

I start my server with a loop script in a screen session, but the server is started with this line:

wine iw5mp_server.exe +set sv_config "server.cfg" +set dedicated 2 +start_map_rotate

The server console will open. You may have to start it several times if you get errors regarding
bandwidth.
Initially it might complain about not being able to hit steam servers, but in a few seconds it
will connect and list your server.
