Well, we all know setting up a cron job is not a big deal for this method. But restarting periodically is not a fair thing. What if a team is actually playing matches @ 5 AM? Anyway I think the better way is to find and fix the bug.

Good practice you should really restart you're server periodically, reduce game log sizes & knocks out any errors. I'm sure there are more experienced people here that can advise on a linux program that will schedule this for you, but a 5am restart will alleviate these kinds of troubles :)

i just restarted it. i checked the creation time of the console log and it was 2007-12-23 20:24:10, so ~21 days ago.

Yes I checked that. I connected from europe with ~150ms ping but the in-game ping meter stuck @ 999. As far as the lagometer did not show any peaks but constant (high) values I think its some kinda variable overflow bug in the server code.

I have no such experience. My host was restarted last time when I upgraded to 1.4 . Although there is no much of traffic on it.
I have it running on ubuntu feisty AMD64.

anyone else experience their server running for a long time and eventually giving everyone a 999 ping, although no lag is present whatsoever? this has happened to my 1.0 servers and 1.4 servers.
