my mistake, it seems there is no RPM package for the latest dev release, therefore i can only suggest someone tries to compile like you say ignoring the error.

So when compiling wine, did you just ignore the error about not having an X environment?

apt-get install screen
sudo dpkg -i wine_1.1.10........................
screen wine ./CoDWaWmp.exe +set dedicated 2 +set net_ip your_ip +set net_port your_port +exec server.cfg +map_rotate

server is now running, if you want to keep it running in background simply detatch from screen "ctrl+a d". to resume "screen -r"

Ok, done.

I must admit, there's been a couple of weeks since I actually did this on my own server, so I might have forgotten a step or two. If anyone has the opportunity to try this out, please do so and give me feedback. I'll update the guide if needed.

The guide can be found at:

http://www.multikill.no/guides/cod5-wine-debian-guide.txt

Keep in mind that this is not a guide for linux newbies. I'm assuming that you have basic knowledge of how linux works. If you feel I have been too vague or unspecific at some points, feel free to tell me about it and I'll try to clarify, but I won't write a ten-page in-depth all-scenarios-possible-guide. This is a "quick" guide.

Please give feedbacks to me personally to avoid spamming this list, though! I'll email the list if I update the guide.

I can make a tutorial for Debian/Ubuntu if you want.
On these platform the installation is even easier, as pre-compiled packages already exists for wine.

OK just got a chance to post a news blurb and wanted to mirror the thanks
here:

http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?p=67983#post67983

The guys from the cod at icculus.org mailing list put together a tutorial,
including cod and wine config files. This is just a temporary fix until we
get the final files from Treyarch/Activision.

Granted this will eat a bit more resources then just the native files but
it goes to show you the power of the community.

One more thing:

This mailing list is made up mostly of professional GSPs who run their
business on Linux but are forced to run windows in times like these.

These guys are competitors in the real word with each other but on the
mailing list they are a very close community. They go out of their way to
help each other when problems like this arise.

I would personally like to thank all of them for a great job once again
helping each other as well as their clients when we're waiting for the
dev/pub to catch up.

Have you thanked a GSP today?
