[cod] Custom Maps

You are actually both correct. It doesn't have anything to do with the
number of maps you are running. It has to do with the length of the
filenames. COD2 creates an info string of all the .iwd's running on the
server. If this string exceeds 1024 characters in length, it will crash
the server, or cause a iwd/sum mismatch error because the info string is
truncated instead of being a complete listing of the files running on
the server. Having multiple mods and/or maps and using the fs_game
function compounds the problem. I have played with this many times.
And everytime the same thing. When the info string exceeds 1024
characters, bam....nothing but problems.

My suggestion....combine all your custom maps and mods into 1 or 2
.iwd's (if possible) with minumum filename lengths. It will make your
download a lot larger, but will remove the iwd/sum mismatch error due to
filename lengths.

Until we get a patch that will allow dvars to contain more that 1024
characters, we will continue to see this problem. It has been
extensively discussed at iwnation. So this isn't a linux only problem.
It is a problem with the game engine itself.

Regards....
