Change the old server name to “Server moved to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx”
 provided
that you are going to have both servers online for a period of time.

You could always set up an automated message a week before or something that
will appear every so often telling them the new IP address, that will at
least catch the eye of most regulars who you may not have any direct means
of communicating with.

There's no choice, all IP's would change.

If the people enter the server by dns, it's easy, but everyone enters by IP

Hey all,

We have a relatively succesful COD2 server and might need to move to a new
server within our DataCenter - which unfortunately would mean a new IP
address.

Obviously, I want to avoid disrupting the flow of players to the server as
much as possible. Are players 'favorites' servers that are IP-based or
name-based? Anyway to deal with this? Forwarders?

In the past, changing a popular servers IP was a big mistake since people
had to relocate the server based on its new IP. Is thsi still a big issue?

Thanks,

Luke
