Command line 'thingys' in console

Is it just me, my settings (fedora core 3) or is it the linux binaries?

When I'm typing in the console I noticed the following things:
- When the server displays a messages (in console), it 'breaks' my typing
line.
- When I push backspace, it erases the whole line.

I'm running cod2 in a screen and I'm using the 1.0a version.

Is this some setting on my server?
