pb on linux

I should have noticed this a long time ago, but, I didn't.

When the server starts,  I kept seeing "0 Aliases Written to
pbalias.dat" and "0 Stat Records Written to pbstat.dat" but never really
paid much attention to those messages.

Where are the files pbalias.dat and pbstat.dat supposed to be?

Today I tried to find the files so I could look at them.. They don't
even exist on the server..  Should these be created manually, then I
presume chmod 777 for both of them?
