Here lately, PB has failed to update.  There have been two major releases of
PB in the last couple of weeks.  Neither would update automatically.  I had
to stop the server and run pbweb.

PB is always updating itself.  I've seen PB get "stuck" on an old version
and refuse to update.  PBWEB always fixes it, and usually corrects any
issues so that future updates continue to work.
