[cod] trouble in paradise

See if there's anything output from the server. If its running in a screen
for example or as a service, take it out and run it direct from a console
temporarily. Just sometimes some messages don't get passed to screen/through
it which can be valuable info. (i.e sometimes segfaults etc don't show).
