I think it's a combination of the build tools and the end-system...both
servers I ssh'd to on the first day gave me totally bogus backtraces
unless I used a binary that still had the debug symbols.

Historically, I could map a backtrace in the stripped binaries to the
original, unstripped version here to figure out what was going on.

Not sure what changed...but it's worth noting that the backtrace Steve
posted appears sane. I assume he's still on FreeBSD and thus an older
glibc, which might be the culprit.

I might be on crack or just had unlucky results, fwiw.
